Title: Silent All These Years
Author/Artist: [livejournal.com profile] were_lemur
Rating: PG
Word count: 232
Summary: OT, Mon Mothma - Post-RotJ, Luke and Leia's parentage. How little we really know people.
A/N: The title is a song by Tori Amos.

Of course, she'd wondered.

After all, it wasn't as if Skywalker was a common name. And Commander Skywalker had certainly looked the part -- though he'd lacked the sheer showmanship of the Hero Without Fear. And, of course, though Skywalker had been presumed killed during the purge, it wasn't impossible that he'd left behind a son.

But with the Alliance constantly on the run, she'd never had the opportunity to ask.

Three weeks after Endor, he and Leia Organa came to her.

Organa spoke first. "There's something you ought to know -- about the two of us. Something that could be used to damage our credibility."

For a moment, she thought that Organa was going to say that Skywalker had gotten her pregnant. She was about to reassure them that there were worse things, when he blurted out "Darth Vader was our father."

She wasn't sure which shocked her more -- the Darth Vader or the our. She let out a long breath before asking, "Not Anakin Skywalker?"

"Anakin Skywalker took the name Darth Vader," Organa explained. By the carefully neutral tone in her voice, she was none too happy about the fact.

That voice, the tilt of her chin -- it was as if two and a half decades fell away. And suddenly, a quarter of a century too late, everything clicked into place. Oh, Padme, why didn't you tell me?

I really enjoyed that - just a tiny moment when everything suddenly fits into place and you realise what's been going on.
Leia's reaction to Vader; and Mon Mothma's reaction to the "our" part were good. And finally the connection to Padme...
It all fits together!
Great job with the prompt!

Very nicely done. Leia's careful neutrality and Mon Mothma's quiet, unspoken knowing were both perfect.

Very good. The moment of sick, sad realization was particularly well done. Such a lot of history and emotion fitting into these few paragraphs, great!

That last line just killed me. Yes, too late :( I love this moment of memory - characters like MM who have seen all the major events, but haven't had quite enough info to put all the pieces together, and suddenly that click! It's fantastic.

I loved that you were able to tell so much in such a short little ficlet. And the last sentence was just right!

Well done.

This was so telling. Especially Leia's concern that it was: Something that could be used to damage our credibility. Good work.
